A Bay area TV news station falsely reported the names of the pilots from the Asiana flight 214 which crashed during its attempt to land in San Francisco last Sunday.
The offensive names were “Sum Ting Wong,” “Wi Tu Lo,” “Ho Lee Fuk,” and “Bang Ding Ow.” NOT COOL.
According to a statement from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), a summer intern received an inquiry from a media outlet. That intern went against the policies of the NTSB and confirmed the offensive, false names of the flight crew. The NTSB went on to mention that they do not release the names of their crew and any related parties to transportation accidents to the media. Someone's getting FIRED.
An apology was issued by the TV station on-air and on the station's official website.
