The Atlantic Hurricane basin is busy again, with the National Hurricane Center monitoring three systems. The first is Tropical Storm Isaac, which continues to spin about over Louisiana. Isaac is forecast to move up the Mississippi River Valley over the next few days, bringing soaking rains to drought-plagued places. Isaac's remnants should depart the eastern US on Labor Day or Tuesday of next week...

The second system is Tropical Storm Kirk. Located in the central Atlantic, Kirk is forecast to become a hurricane by the weekend. While it will gain strength, it is forecast to curve out to sea, posing threats only to shipping lanes and fisherman. The third system is a robust tropical wave that left the African coast earlier this week. This large system is expected to develop into Tropical Depression #12...and gradually Tropical Storm and Hurricane Leslie over time. It is too soon to tell if Leslie will threaten the United States, but if it did, it would be well after Labor Day.
