Q: Why did you start competing in the bodybuilding industry?A: It's in my blood! Both of my parents were competitive body builders in the late '80's and early '90's. I literally grew up in the gym. My mom taught me how to lift weights properly. And I feel very blessed because I learned how to eat properly at a very early age. With the knowledge my parents instilled in me, I can't imagine having another career and allowing everything I've been taught to go to waste. I also love being on stage and performing. I was classically trained in ballet and other styles of dance, so the stage is a natural place for me to be.Q: What are the biggest challenges you face when preparing for a competition?A: The diet. I can work out all day long, that's no problem! I love pushing my body to its limits in the gym, but when it came to dieting, I had a lot of work to do. It's more of a mental challenge than anything. I have to constantly remind myself that it's just food! And my "diet" is temporary. I will be able to indulge in my ice cream eventually, but I have to keep my goals in mind. The food is not worth sacrificing everything that I've worked so hard for.Q: What are your favorite exercises?A: Squats! I love squatting heavy! Really any exercise to help build up my glutes makes me happy. I also have recently become addicted to sprinting. My coach, IFBB Figure Pro Belinda Hope, got a very reluctant me to meet her and the rest of my team, Team Hope, on the track for sprints very early one Sunday morning. And since that day, I've been back every Sunday with the team. I'm definitely not a morning person, but since then, I've seen changes in my body that can only be attributed to sprinting.Q: Do you take any supplements?A: Yes. Supplements are extremely important in anyone's diet because they provide us with the nutrients that are bodies don't get from food. I take Zija which is supplement that contains moringa oleifera, "a miracle tree". The tree's leaves, seeds, and fruits are harvested, shade dried, and formulated into a powder. Zija is organic and vegan friendly. The health benefits of the moringa include anti-inflammatory support, promotes healthy digestion, heightens mental clarity, increases energy, provides natural anti-aging benefits, nourishes the body's immune system, regulates blood glucose levels, and promotes healthy circulation. It contains all the essential amino acids, plus nine other amino acids, along with all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. They are 100% completely absorbed by the body providing me with long lasting energy and quicker recovery. My favorite product of Zija's is the XM+ that I take as a pre-workout drink.Q: What is your advice to someone who is interested in competing?A: Do it! No one is holding you back except for you. You will not feel more personally accomplished doing anything else in your life. This sport requires you to be completely responsible for your own performance. If you don't do the diet and train hard, that's all on you. And when you hit the stage, knowing how hard you worked, there is no better feeling! But be warned, you will get addicted!
