Man Sentenced To 50 Years For Fatal Nightclub Shooting

OCALA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - An Ocala area man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for fatally shooting another man outside a nightclub.

A Marion County judge sentenced 19-year-old Roderick Mitchell to the lengthy term after his conviction on second-degree murder charges.

Authorities say Mitchell fatally shot Daniel Davis, Jr., outside the Gracie's Cougar Lounge in January when the man found Davis talking to his girlfriend.

Reports say that Mitchell testified that Davis was coming toward him, and he fired in self-defense. Other witnesses testified that Davis was drunk and was not threatening anyone.
